RIP Dalma

Im heartbroken. My dearest pet rabbit Dalma, passed away this morning. He was 9 years old. We noticed he was having breathing problems over the weekend so I took him to the vet first thing Monday morning. It was at the vet that I noticed that his left cheek was swollen and the vet checked his mouth and said there was some sort of “puss like” material in it. Because of Dalma’s fragile state, the vet didn’t want to give him anesthesia because he was scared that he may not wake up and it would be too stressful on Dalma to perform the procedure without it. The choice instead was to take x-rays to see what was going on inside. The x-rays came back better than the vet expected, so the plan was to give Dalma antibiotics during the day, hopefully get his strength back up, and bring him back the next day.

During the entire time we were in the room, I could tell that he wasn’t feeling well at all, and I was trying my best to hold back the tears. I was hopeful that he would get better, but the vet was very candid in letting me know that he may be on his last legs. We took Dalma home, I spent a few more minutes massaging him, before going to work.

When I came home later that night, my sister told me that he had taken his medicine, but he was still having difficulties with lifting his head and with his breathing. Imagine trying to catch your breath for 2 days straight while only breathing through your nose. My sister told me that when she gave him pineapple, he seemed to get really excited and wanted to eat it, but he seemed to be in so much pain that he could only muster a few nibbles.

After getting settled and taking care of a few things in the house, I came back downstairs to lay down next to Dalma. I just lay there on the floor with him, trying to massage away the pain, trying to put him at ease. I had a gut feeling that it was probably our last night with him. I whispered to him that he didn’t have to be strong anymore. I whispered that it was ok to go. It was ok to say goodbye and that I loved him very much. I spent another 15 minutes with him before giving him a kiss on the head and saying goodbye.

I fell asleep on my couch. This morning, my sister woke me up with watery eyes and tears rolling down her cheeks and told me that Dalma had passed. I went downstairs and his body was still warm. He tried to hold on as long as could. Tried to fight. I picked him up and held him. Not wanting to let go. Not wanting to accept that he was really gone.

But he is. We had 8 1/2 years of good times. He was a beloved member of our family. Im going to miss the pitter patter of his feet running across the wooden floor, the way he would slide past the food that I’d put down cause he was so anxious to eat it. Im going to miss whistling the tune I would use to get his attention. Im going to miss him cuddling next to my feet on a cold night and his little head “nudge” when he wanted you to continue petting him. I miss him so much.

Hope you and Lily and your 2 bunnies are running around in bunny heaven together. RIP Dalma.

Love you little guy.

Here are the last pictures, taken yesterday at the vet, that I ever took of my dearest Dalma.

When I do get back on my feet, the first I do, besides putting in a honest’s days work, is go see NOTORIOUS.  I’ll be wearing the tee that I designed a few months back so if you see me, HOLLA!

F#$k!

You know that pain you get when you sprain your ankle real bad?  Yeah I have that right now, but I didnt sprain my ankle and I dont know where it came from.  All I know is that I can’t walk and Im really frustrated cause I can’t go on the annual Dan & Elaine Cambridge/Boston/Maine Trip.  What am I doing instead, Im sitting here watching “Everybody Loves Raymond” (the episode where Robert’s new girlfriend Angela eats a fly lol) and back-blogging.  I guess its a good thing cause, as usual, I have been slacking with my posts.

For all those with plans tonight and this weekend, stay safe, warm, and dont get hurt.

Authentic Shorts

Fresh off collecting comic books and spending hours upon hours playing Tetris, I got addicted to a new hobby, NCAA Authentic Nike shorts. Basically these were the same shorts that the players would wear during games and retail was about $100 for a pair if you could find them. What got me hooked exactly? Iverson at G-town playing at the Garden wearing the Jordan XI’s. The G-town Kente uniforms with the XIs were straight murder and I had to have them.

I remember seeing my first authentics at the mall in a sporting goods store called “Going to the Game”. I remember they were a pair of Syracuse authentics and as soon as I held them and felt the quality first hand, I was hooked. Of course, my mom refused to buy me a pair so I had to put my addiction on hold. Back then, I played ball everyday after school so having a pair of dope shorts was necessary. Back then, Olafs (peep the movie “Above the Rim” and this old NY Times Article from 1994 if you don’t know what Olafs are.) and authentics were the shorts of choice on the playground. I’d find myself at times forgetting to play D cause I’d be too busy staring at someone’s shorts. Pause.

Anyway, I was able to scrounge up $100 and picked up my first pair which indeed turned out to be the G-town shorts. I don’t remember how I got them, if I ordered them from Footlocker or what not, but the most important thing is that I got them and I still have them to this day. So why am I blogging about this? Well someone made a post on Niketalk about it and it had me reminiscing about about those days. I think I may be addicted again.

Missing are my home and away G-town shorts from the Victor Page era and the Home G-town Kente from the Iverson era.

Rite Aid

Who the hell blogs about a trip to Rite Aid? Yours truly of course. It was an unplanned trip and totally random so I said “what the hell” and proceeded to take a few flicks around the store. Enjoy.

It’s that time again when my Dad has to leave to go back to work. It’s a bittersweet moment, but we always end up leaving with a very full stomach. Tonight’s restaurant, none other than a favorite of mine, Charlie Browns.

Afterparty Diner Run

What’s my favorite part about partying? When the actual party is over, it gets nice and quiet, and I head off to a diner for a late night dinner with a few good friends.
